We asked Adam of Mec Lir the following questions.

Tell us about yourself
Mec Lir is a bit of an enigma to be completely honest! But it's essentially a fiddle-led instrumental band that has solid trad tunes at its core, mixed with 80s synths, drums, screaming electric guitar solos and the occasional keytar – naturally! Our aim is to not take ourselves too seriously and have a bit of craic on stage, hopefully that comes across in our live shows. We've been playing together for about 11 years, and so far have two releases – our debut CD 'Not An EP' and album 'Livewire', which was nominated for 'Album of the Year' in 2021. We've also been working on a new CD, which we'll be announcing very soon…

Any particular career highlights?
We've been very lucky to play some amazing gigs over the 11 years we've been together. Any time we're allowed out in front of an audience it's not only a miracle but we love seeing everyone's smiling faces beaming back at us while we get a bit silly on stage. We had an fantastic Summer this year, getting to play some class festivals here in Scotland like Tiree, Hebcelt and then all the way to Brittany and Italy, but a stand out was definitely the opportunity to play the Fleadh Cheoil in Belfast in August – the place was jumping!

What are your plans for the future?
We're very excited to release some new music! We've been working hard on a new album for the last year or so, which we will be releasing very very soon… Also we can't wait to kick off 2027 in style with our headline Celtic Connections show at SWG3 in Glasgow – 16th January, be there!
