Vote for Biggar Accordion and Fiddle Club now! It’s going to be another great night at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards on Saturday 5th December in Paisley Arena, Lagoon Centre. We asked Jim of Biggar Accordion and Fiddle Club the following questions.

Tell us about yourself
Biggar Accordion and Fiddle Club meet monthly November- April to allow local accordion and fiddle musicians, of all ages, to meet and play music together with the emphasis being on the playing of Scottish Dance Music, with local spectators encouraged to come along and enjoy the music. The afternoons entertainment is enhanced by inviting a guest artist to perform. We have been very fortunate to work in conjunction with local tutor Keith Dickson for many years giving his young pupils a platform to perform and gain confidence which in turn has given the club a healthy core of emerging young players to entertain our audience.

Any particular career highlights?
Celebrating 50 years of Biggar Accordion and Fiddle Club in 2024
To mark the 50 year anniversary a Shetland Band were invited to Biggar for the weekend and the following events were organised:
1. A stramash where local accordion and fiddle players came along and played in a pub session and was led by a local band the Alan Gardiner Band.
2. Accordion and Fiddle Youth Showcase where young accordion and fiddle players showcased their talents.
3. Ceilidh- Ceilidh with over 100 people attending featuring The Callum Nicolson Dance band and supported by local Fin Hope Band
4. Anniversary Celebration Day- Regular club meeting with guest artist Callum Nicolson Dance Band

What are your plans for the future?
To continue holding our monthly meetings with the emphasis on encouraging young musicians to come and play and trying to engage a younger audience.
