We asked Amy of Amy Laurenson the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a piano player from Shetland, currently based in Glasgow. Alongside my solo work I play with a couple different line-ups inc. FLIT (trio with Will Pound & Guro Kvifte Nesheim), LÉDA, duo with Norman Willmore & Ciaran Ryan Band.
Any particular career highlights?
Putting together a New Voices commission for Celtic Connections earlier this year was a huge highlight for me! Self releasing my debut album 'Strands' in 2024 is also up there.
This whole year has been my favourite yet with getting to play across Europe & Canada with line-ups mentioned above & also depping with a few artists inc. Scottish Fish, Madeleine Stewart Trio & Isla Ratcliff.
What are your plans for the future?
I'm looking forward to developing more new work and arrangements from traditional Shetland music with FLIT & Norman Willmore & I'm hoping 2027 will be just as full of recording & live performances. Also planning to get solo album no.2 underway in the studio in the not too distant future!
