We asked Jennifer of Take the Floor the following questions.

Tell us about yourself
Take the Floor is BBC Radio Scotland’s longest continually running programme, and champions traditional Scottish music and song. The programme features sessions from leading Scottish dance bands, as well as singers and other musicians and the presenter Gary Innes chats with a fantastic array guests, including leading musicians, Scottish actors, and other well known Scottish faces. Take the Floor also hosts regular live events, bringing world class traditional music to audiences across the country.

Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Take the Floor and it’s predecessors, have championed Scottish traditional music since their inception on Radio Scotland in the 1930s, and continues to showcase the very best that the scene has to offer – past and present!

Any particular career highlights?
This year, Take the Floor set a new record for the largest ceilidh audience the programme has ever had, at Lochaber Live Festival in Fort William. Over 800 dancers of all ages and generations joined Gary Innes and two bands for a fantastic afternoon of music and dance.

What are your plans for the future?
Take the Floor will continue to champion the very best of Scottish traditional music, from our very happening music scene with musicians young and old, to showcasing some gems from the BBC Archives and the masters from our past.
