Active Events are sponsors of the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2025 and are sponsoring Industry Person of the Year. We asked them some questions about their experience of sponsoring the Trad Awards. If you would like to come to the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards on 6th December in Aberdeen Music Hall you can buy tickets here or watch on BBC ALBA from 9pm on Saturday 6th November.
Thanks to Lisa Whytock from Active Events for answering these questions.
Why have you chosen to sponsor Na Trads, and what importance does the event hold for your sector?
The Scottish music industry is a critical and essential part of our cultural landscape and eco-system. Succeeding in this profession is fraught with challenges and hurdles to overcome and little support is available to managers, agents or industry professional to nurture growth and yet those individuals and businesses are so absolutely key to the growth of our artists both domestically and internationally.
Active have been running as an international agency and event management company for 35 years this year. We fully understand how difficult it can be to succeed and grow and feel passionately about supporting the current industry at all stages of their careers. This award shines a spotlight on some of the individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes, often with little recognition, its great to sponsor this award and so brilliant to see the Trad awards instigate it.
What makes your organisation tick?
What makes Active Events tick is our focus on helping artists move forward, no matter the challenges. For 35 years, we’ve worked closely with musicians, supporting them through the practical hurdles of building a career, giving them the tools and opportunities they need to grow. We believe in long-term relationships and creating real, workable pathways for artists at every stage. That commitment to steady support and genuine collaboration is what keeps us motivated — plus, of course, great music.
What are you most looking forward to about the Trad Awards or do you have a favourite moment from over the years?
I have so many favourite moments, but one of my highlights was being given the honour of being awarded the Hamish Henderson lifetime achievement award for services to traditional music.
Each year there are new nominations and new awards, these are so important to bolster the morale of artists and our industry and to recognise great achievements.
What would you say to anyone who is considering entering, voting in, watching or attending the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards?
These awards are like the Oscars of traditional music, shining a spotlight on the artists, culture-bearers, and industry professionals who keep Scotland’s musical heritage alive and evolving. They celebrate the creativity, talent, and passion that make Scottish traditional culture what it is today. By voting and watching, you’re not just supporting your favourite performers—you’re helping to honour the traditions, stories, and communities that shape our national identity.
