We asked David of The People's Parish the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
The People’s Parish brings together artists and people in local communities to reflect on the places where they live. Our starting point is the back story of the place. From place we connect community, local history, folklore and creativity, making projects that reflect how communities see themselves and how they want to present themselves to the world.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Scottish traditional music is an essential element in the identity of places throughout Scotland, and is a powerful connector of people with their local culture.
Any particular career highlights?
The People's Parish initiative has taken place in communities across Scotland, Morton, Cumnock, Kilwinning, Dumbarton, Barrhead, Pathhead, Mayfield, Restalrig, Livingston, Falkirk, Kinross, Mid-Argyll, Arbroath and Dufftown, each of them bringing together creative fieldworkers steeped in the traditional arts with local groups, schools, and artists.
What are your plans for the future?
To continue to expand the number of communities we work in.
