We asked Ross of Ross Couper Band the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Ross Couper Band made their debut at Celtic Connections 2023 to a great response. On the back of that performance we were invited to play at various festivals throughout the year. 2023 culminated with the band recording 'The Homeroad' at Gorbals Sound studios in Glasgow. This was released on 3rd May 2024 at Shetland Folk Festival who organised a special launch event for the band.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Fiddle playing has been handed down from generation to generation in my family. My mam learned from her father and I learned from her. Music has always been a very important thing in my life and I'm delighted to be involved in the Scottish music scene as my job.
Any particular career highlights?
Touring with Peatbog Faeries has taken me all over the world and those trips are always special.
My New Voices performance at Celtic Connections has to get a mention and it's actually what the band has come out of. A lot of the music on the album is from there.
Taking my band to my home festival, Shetland Folk Festival was a real highlight. Launching the album there was a great feeling.
What are your plans for the future?
New music with the Peatbogs is on the horizon and plan to do a lot more playing with my band next year as well. I'm hoping to write a lot more music as in recent times I haven't had much chance! I have a tune book nearly ready to go and I must get that finished and released. Hopefully in time for next Christmas!
