We asked Michael of Michael Philip Scottish Dance Band the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
The Michael Philip Scottish Dance Band has been in the Scottish scene for almost 40 years, performing all over the world and have been broadcasting for the BBC since 1992. I am fortunate to work with some of Scotland’s top musicians, Margaret Robertson on fiddle, Nicol McLaren on second accordion, Graham Berry on piano, Malcolm Ross on drums and Suzanne Gray on double bass. This also includes Anya Johnston on fiddle, Robert Simpson on drums and Paul Clancy on piano.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Scottish music has been a passion of mine since childhood and I love performing and promoting traditional music. I have composed around 300 traditional tunes and published five volumes of music.
Any particular career highlights?
This year we won the prestigious award of the 50th anniversary NAAFC Band Section.
What are your plans for the future?
To release a new album with a unique innovative sound and continue to promote Scottish music far and wide.
