We asked Paddy of Eamon Nugent – The Waiting Room – Album of the Year the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Eamonn Nugent is a Bodhran player from Bellshill just outside Glasgow who began playing music with St. Patrick's CCE in Coatbridge as a child.
Mastering the bodhran, Eamonn went on to become a sought after musician in the trad music scene in both Scotland and Ireland and has performed shows with his band TRODA, the Paddy Callaghan Trio, Sarah Markey Band and Cherish the Ladies to name but a few.
A few years ago Eamonn became very ill and after tests it was discovered that he had several Brain Tumours and has been undergoing treatment since this time. During this battle, he decided to release an album featuring some previously recorded tracks and some newly recorded material with friends and musical influences included. The album 'The Waiting Room' is a play on words detailing Eamonn's treatment for Brain Cancer and also his professional work as an Ophthalmologist.
This album is made up of a selection of tracks that feature the bodhran playing of Eamonn Nugent in various bands.
All money raised from the purchasing of this music or album will be directed towards Brain Tumour Ireland / Brain Tumour UK.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
In Eamonn's own words:
I have been so fortunate to be asked to play the bodhran on many projects and albums over the years. This album is a compilation of my favorite recordings along with a few new ones. I hope you enjoy it.
By purchasing this album any money raised will be donated to Brain tumour Ireland/ Brain tumour research UK. Both charities are doing remarkable work in assisting those and their families with the diagnosis and improving research and treatments in this area.
To everyone who gave their time, help and advice on bringing this album together I am extremely grateful.
Any particular career highlights?
Eamonn is a former All-Britain Bodhran champion, and All-Ireland winner with St. Roch's Senior Grupai Cheoil in 2017.
Eamonn has been a musician in high demand as a performer and recording artist and has been known to regularly perform with world renowned musicians such as Joanie Madden, Sharon Shannon as well as performing with his own band TRODA.
What are your plans for the future?
Unfortunately it is now clear that Eamonn won't win his battle with Cancer and he is currently undergoing Palliative care, where his life expectancy is estimated to be less than a few weeks.
His lasting musical legacy is very much secure and he will continue to raise funds and awareness for the chosen beneficiary charities from his album sales.
