We asked William of Dornoch Pipe Band the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Dornoch Pipe Band was formed in 1926 and will be celebrating its 100 years in 2026. The band plays every Saturday night from May-September, weather permitting, in Dornoch Square. Like most Bands we struggle for members as they leave school and go South to Univercity but at the moment we have a healthy group of members. The Band has competed at Competitions from Grade4 to Grade3A. The Band practices every Tuesday night at Invergordon Social Club which is a half way house for everyone to attend.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
I have been in the Band for 58 years and PM since 1978. I enjoy the satisfaction of hearing the band playing traditional music and seeing the up and coming pipers and drummers making progress.
Any particular career highlights?
Winning the World Pipe Band Championship and Champion of Champions in 1993. Also entertaining visitors in Dornoch Square.
What are your plans for the future?
To see the Band keeping going forward and new faces in the ranks.
