We asked Zach of Dlù the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Dlù, a vibrant Gaelic indie-trad band hailing from Glasgow, is a tight-knit musical collective consisting of Moilidh NicGriogair, Zach Ronan, Aidan Spiers, Seòras Chlad and Andrew Grossart. Their diverse musical backgrounds contribute to their distinctive sound, blending tradition with modernity. The band's name, derived from the Gaelic word 'dlùth,' meaning close-knit, pays homage to their Gaelic speaking roots and reflects the strong camaraderie among its members. Dlù first gained recognition by winning the Danny Kyle Open Stage in 2018. Their debut album 'Moch,' released in February 2022 at Glasgow's Òran Mòr, received widespread acclaim, earning international radio plays and favourable reviews.
As Gaelic speakers, Dlù are deeply committed to preserving their culture by creating music that resonates with the Gaelic speaking community, and newcomers to Scottish Traditional music. In 2023, the band performed at various shows and festivals across the UK, Belgium, and Italy, sharing stages with the likes of Shooglenifty and Niteworks. Following this success, Dlù’s new album ‘Close To’ was released in June 2024, further showcasing their unique sound and commitment to Gaelic culture.
