Tell us about yourself
Daniel is currently an Upper Strings tutor for Stirling Council alongside being involved in two YMI projects in Stirling – Tolbooth Trad and Cowie Trad Project. Tolbooth Trad delivers extra curricular Groupwork lessons to Young People in Stirlingshire and Cowie Trad works with two schools in Cowie, Stirlingshire and delivers whistle, fiddle and guitar classes to all pupils from P4 onwards. In addition, he also teaches one off workshops with various local Feis organisations, The Gaitherin in Aberdeenshire and the RCS Scottish Music Degree course where he teaches Ceilidh Skills for Year 2 students. He also has a small number of private students.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
To have the ability to be able to share/pass on my knowledge of traditional music to as many people as I can, to enjoy performing (especially playing for dancing) and to be part of a vibrant culture of fantastic people.
Any particular career highlights?
Winning the 2010 Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition and getting the opportunity to work with so many keen and enthusiastic learners every week.
What are your plans for the future?
To continue to develop my pedagogy and use my passion for music education to give as many people as possible the opportunity to learn about, play and be involved in Scottish Music.
