We asked Alison of Croy Live the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Croy Live was formed six years ago by Alison Mackenzie with the aim of bringing quality traditional musicians to Croy Village Hall, a small rural venue, and also providing a platform for local amateur musicians. Croy Live is now established as a venue for musicians when they are organising their tours with numerous enquiries each year.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Traditional music has been a huge part of my music career as a performer, teacher and mum. When finishing my full time education position I pursued different music activities one of which was to promote concerts for traditional musicians. I was keen to bring musicians to a rural hall with easy access for local people and introduce bands to them that they might not otherwise hear.
Any particular career highlights?
I have been encouraged by the number of people who are now on my contact base. Audience members have been introduced to bands/ soloists who are new to them through Croy Live. Local amateur musicians have appreciated the opportunity to play a support at the concerts. The Celtic Christmas at Croy concerts have proved extremely popular where young musicians perform beside the professionals.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to continue to bring the best of traditional musicians to Croy Village Hall, give a platform for local musicians and nurture the community atmosphere of the concerts.
