We asked Caitlin of Ceòl Cholasa the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Ceòl Cholasa is a small, intimate folk festival on the Hebridean Isle of Colonsay. Running since 2008, the festival has seen some of the finest musicians in traditional music grace our wee stage such as Flook, Phil Cunningham & Aly Bain, Mànran, Skippinnish, Karine Polwart, Breabach, LAU, The Young'Uns, Iain MacDonald and Iain Macfarlane, Ìmar and Kinnaris Quintet to name just a handful.
Our tiny population of 120 people triples each September as we welcome loyal regulars, new visitors and world-class artists who get to enjoy the stunning beauty of the island during the day and revel until the wee hours, surrounded by music and culture each evening.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
To promote the culture, language and music that we are so lucky to grow up with and live among with others, and to celebrate the incredible musical talent of Scottish and Celtic musicians – at all stages of their career.
Any particular career highlights?
Taking over the festival in 2022 and seeing it actually work, seeing people enjoy themselves and seeing the future of this festival, built on the hard work of our local people, continue as a legacy upheld. We are immensely proud and grateful.
What are your plans for the future?
Continue striving to make the festival a safe, inclusive space that makes room for all artists and attendees.
