We asked Beth of Beth Malcolm the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
I am a songwriter and singer of stories, from Perth. I am passionate about keeping auld songs alive, and finding new ways to tell our traditional stories through music.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
I was brought up with a lot of singing in the house. I learned so many Scots songs by ear as a wee one, completely by accident. After years of not singing much traditional music in my late teens, I came back to the songs of Scotland as a grown woman. Now, a few years on, it is the joy of my life to sing Scots songs as my work.
Any particular career highlights?
Singing with Niteworks for their show with a full Orchestra is something I’ll never forget.
My New Voices show at Celtic Connections will always hold very dear memories for me too.
What are your plans for the future?
I have written an album, which is a piece of storytelling through music, due to release in the coming months. I plan to tour ‘FOLKMOSIS’ throughout 2025, and would love to develop more story based works.
