We asked Euan of An Dannsa Dub the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
An Dannsa Dub (The Dub Dance in Gaelic) is the brainchild of dub vocalist & producer Tom Spirals and Scottish traditional musician Euan McLaughlin formed in 2020. The project fuses the mystical energy and instruments of traditional Scottish music and Gaelic song with the heavy, meditative, driving basslines of digital dub music.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
We grew up with a deep love for Scottish music and the community centred nature of it. We wanted to try and put our own stamp on it by combining it with our passion for Dub and other soundsystem oriented music.
Massive thanks has to go out to The Fraser Shaw Trust for helping us kick off the whole project. An Dannsa Dub wouldn’t exist without them and without Fraser’s amazing music.
Any particular career highlights?
We’ve spent the last few years touring a lot, with venue and festival headline shows across the UK and Europe including appearances at Glastonbury, Festival Interceltique de Lorient, DubCamp and Celtic Connections.
Getting to bring Gaelic song to new audiences is amazing such as playing at Boomtown to 10,000 ravers and likewise getting to bring a bit of soundsystem culture to rural Scottish village halls is always great.
What are your plans for the future?
We’ve just released our new single ‘Tha Mi Air Chall’, the first track ever to combine Gaelic and Jamaican Patois on the same record.
This is going to be followed in 2025 by our second album and our biggest year of touring yet!
