We asked Richard of Aberdeen Folk Club the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Aberdeen Folk Club meets every Wednesday at the City's famous Blue Lamp music venue/bar for cub session nights. We also have extended spot nights and guest concert nights. We have a strong membership and audience attendance.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
To promote folk music in Aberdeen and hopefully further afield. We encourage our members and visitors to play and sing folk music but also, we give them room to explore other acoustic music.
Any particular career highlights?
Aberdeen Folk Club recently celebrated our 60th birthday anniversary, having been founded in October 1962. To celebrate this occasion, we hosted a three-day weekend festival this October at The Blue Lamp. This comprised of four concerts over the weekend plus sessions throughout.
What are your plans for the future?
We hope to continue the growth of our club by increasing our audience levels, and encouraging more people to become members. We are currently in the planning stages of the next year having just had our AGM. This will include more full concerts and the return of the extended spots night.
