We asked Adam Sutherland of Adam Sutherland the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
I’m a writer, player and teacher of contemporary Scottish Traditional Music.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
It’s my passion and my love. I want to pass on what I’ve been given. I want to find the most insanely pleasurable new melodies.
Any particular career highlights?
Composer of the Year at the 2017 Scots Trad Music Awards. A woman in Nova Scotia has the first two bars of one of my tunes tattooed onto her arm. She has no idea who wrote it, and it doesn’t matter.
What are your plans for the future?
Compose a suite of music about mountains and the Braemar mountain rescue. It will be performed at the Braemar Mountain Festival on March 3rd and will include samples of retired rescue team members, a projector with highly emotive images, and several pieces of music composed by me and performed by locals.
