MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2017: Wind Resistance

November 7, 2017 By simon

Congratulations to Wind Resistance who have been nominated in Event of the Year sponsored by VisitScotland in the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2017. Vote now!

We asked Karine Polwart of Wind Resistance the following questions.

Tell us about yourself
'Scottish National Treasure' Karine Polwart is an award-winning singer, songwriter, and theatre-maker. Wind Resistance is her critically-acclaimed debut writing and performance for theatre, and was produced in collaboration with The Royal Lyceum Theatre for a sell-out three-week run at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Because it's rich and beautiful and necessary. It feeds my soul. Through it, I feel connected to others, as a performer, as one voice among many, and as a bearer of gifts from those who've gone before.

Any particular career highlights?
I've been fortunate to win awards and perform alongside many of my musical heroes. And I've made most of my dearest pals through music. But highlights are probably connected with the beautiful people and places I've encountered as a touring musician, from Scalasaig to Yerevan, and Stromness to Alamogordo.

What are your plans for the future?
A Pocket of Wind Resistance, a companion album to the theatre show is released by Hudson Records in November 2017. In 2018, Karine will release an album of new songs with her trio, as well as an illustrated children's book.
