We asked Linda McKie of Royal Burgh of Annan Pipeband the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
The Royal Burgh of Annan Pipe Band were formed in April 2004 following the merger of the Annan Ex-Service Club & MacLean Pipe Bands. One year later, the band were crowned British Pipe Band Champions in Grade 3B and in 2006 were promoted to Grade 3A. The band currently has 30 members ranging from teenagers to older adults
Unfortunately the band was demoted to Grade 3B following the 2016 Pipe Band Season and so efforts commenced to rebuild the band. The 2017 Season turned out to be a massively successful season.
Following the success of the 2017 Season the band has been promoted to Grade 3A and work is well underway to ensure that the Royal Burgh of Annan Pipe Band remains competitive and, hopefully, successful in years to come.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Band members enjoy playing the bagpipes which are a tradition Scottish instrument and enjoy completing in the competition circuit both in Scotland and the UK.
Any particular career highlights?
2017 season seen the band securing the British, Scottish and World titles in Grade 3B alongside clinching the Champion of Champions band and drumming titles for the year
What are your plans for the future?
Following the success of the 2017 Season work is well underway to ensure that the Royal Burgh of Annan Pipe Band remains competitive and, hopefully, successful in years to come, along with continuing teaching youngsters to sustain the band in the future.
