Why are you involved in Scottish music?
7digital devised the Radio 2 Folk Awards and has produced it for BBC Radio 2 every year since 1999. The Awards, now in their 19th year, and one of folk music’s annual highlights, sees some of the biggest names celebrate the UK’s thriving folk scene. The event, which is co-hosted by Mark Radcliffe and Julie Fowlis, takes pride in reflecting the music of all of the UK Nations and Regions and has taken place in Glasgow, Cardiff and Salford. In recent history some of the most prominent figures in Scottish music have been reconginsed at the ceremony, including Dougie Mclean, Aly Bain and John McCusker and the artists to achive recogintion via the Horizon Award (for best emerging act) include Karine Polwart, Kris Drever and Ewen McClennan. Past ceremonies have seen thrilling live performances that showcase the breadth of the Scottish Folk Music scene – Lau, Treacherous Orchestra, Blazin' Fiddles, Eddi Reader and Fara. In partnership with the Folk Awards runs the Young Folk Award, our annual search for talented young musicians aged between 16-21, which has been a platform for Josie Duncan and Pablo Lafuente, Lauren MacColl, Talisk and many more.
