We asked Frieda Morrison of Scots Radio the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Scots Radio is an internet magazine programme that celebrates the Scots language and Culture. It was launched in December 2013 by Broadcaster Frieda Morrison and is supported by Creative Scotland and the Scots Language Centre.
Over the years Scots Radio has built it's content to include more Trad music and feature new CD releases almost every episode. The magazine formula follows spoken interviews, occasional live guests and lightsome banter that attracts a large audience form all over the world. Scots Radio is proud to say that it introduces a new audience to Scottish Traditional Music. Frieda Morrison produces and presents the programme which is recorded at B & B studio by Richard Werner.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
To be honest I never really had a choice – I come from a North East 'Ballad' singing family. I have made three CDs to date and continue to enjoy concerts with some very fine musicians.
Richard Werner: Scottish Traditional music is very much part of the life of B&B Studio and I'm proud to say I've enjoyed recording numerous artists over the years.
Any particular career highlights?
Was 'Singer in Residence' at the School of Scottish Studies, Edinburgh University – 2012/13. I followed Jean Redpath in the Post – a double honour.
Richard Werner: Was part of the team that recorded 'The Complete Songs of Robert Burns' and recorded the entire songs of Robert Tannahill – with Dr Fred Freeman.
Steve Byrne: Occasional co-presenter – solo albums and Bank Albums with folk Band Malinky.
What are your plans for the future?
To include more live musicians in the programme and take the programme on tour with live musicians.
