Na Trads / Scottish Traditional Music Awards 2015
BBC ALBA – Saturday 5 December, 9.00 – 11.00pm
With the 2015 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards set to take place in Dundee on Saturday 5 December, BBC ALBA has confirmed its plans for coverage of the event, widely regarded as the biggest night of the Scots Traditional music calendar.
Since 2008 BBC ALBA has provided coverage from the awards which are now broadcast live and the channel will once again be bringing viewers and listeners the best from this year’s event taking place at Caird Hall, Dundee. And for the first time ever, included in this year’s package will be worldwide coverage on www.bbc.co.uk/alba with BBC Radio Scotland also broadcasting the awards live from the event.
Hosting the evening will be the prodigiously-talented duo, Mary Ann Kennedy and Tony Kearney. Along with presentations of awards across sixteen categories, the evening will feature live performances from a host of top Scottish performers including renowned Gaelic singer Cathy Ann MacPhee who will be travelling from Canada for the occasion, as well as the Peatbog Faeries and Duncan Chisholm, who won Album of the Year 2014.
Event founder and promoter Simon Thoumire, said: “I am thrilled and delighted that BBC ALBA will once again be bringing the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards to audiences throughout the UK and it’s a huge bonus that the awards will also be broadcast worldwide bringing Scotland’s music and song to new international audiences.”
Margaret Cameron, BBC ALBA Executive Producer, said: “BBC ALBA is delighted to be working with Bees Nees Media and other partners including Dundee City Council to bring the awards to a wider audience of viewers and listeners both at home and on a worldwide stage through our enhanced broadcast package. It’s sure to be a fantastic night with a great line-up reflecting Scottish Traditional Music at its very best.”
Sharon Mair, Editor Radio Music, Events and Partnerships for BBC Scotland, said: “BBC Radio Scotland has a great track record of supporting Scottish traditional music so we’re delighted to be broadcasting live from the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards for the first time on Saturday 5th December. This is a true collaboration between all the organisations involved and will bring the best of traditional music to our audiences.”
City of Dundee Lord Provost Councillor Bob Duncan, said: “Dundee City Council is delighted to welcome such a prestigious national music event to the city for the first time and I am certain that Dundee will put on a fantastic show for the BBC ALBA and worldwide audiences as well as those visiting the city for the event. I am also pleased that Dundee’s very own Catriona Mackay who won the Instrumentalist of the Year category at last year’s awards will be performing as part of the evening’s entertainment.”
Na Trads / Scottish Traditional Music Awards 2015 programme will be broadcast live on BBC ALBA from Dundee on Saturday 5 December starting at 9pm and will be repeated on Friday 11 December at 9.50pm. BBC Radio Scotland is available on 92-95FM with live coverage from the event.
