Scots Language Awards 2026: Steph Wemyss

Weel duin tae Steph Wemyss wha hae bin nominatit in Scots Language in the Media (sponsored by Corrie Campbell Communications) in the Scots Language Awards. Vote now!

The 2026 Scots Language Awards tak place on Saturday 19th September at the iconic Discovery Centre, home of the RRS Discovery Ship (1pm). Reserve yer ticket here.

The awards will be a daytime event this year, making them as inclusive and accessible to as many award nominees from across Scotland as possible.

Just being a local quine and being so proud of our heritage and language

Why dae ye feel it is important tae use Scots in everyday life?
If we don’t it’ll die out and at wid be affa sad!! I am so proud of our little corner and the people in it

Dae ye hae a favourite Scots phrase or saying?
I’m awa doon i road to d ma eerins or tak yer toppers aff at the door or you’ll mak a sotter o the bass!!

Is there a Scots speaker who inspires you?
I absolutely love scotland the what and the flying pigs they were the ones who inspired me from a young age

Do you hear Scots spoken regularly in your local area? Have you noticed any changes over time?
Yes by the older generation definitely but not so much the younger which is sad but i hope i can encourage them to keep it alive

The Scots Language Awards are in Dundee on the 19th September at 1pm. There wull be some grand entertainmint includin a recitals fae Yvonne Tait an Hugh Macmillan alang wi musical performances fae Iona Fyfe and Scott Gardiner.
