The 2026 Scots Language Awards tak place on Saturday 19th September at the iconic Discovery Centre, home of the RRS Discovery Ship (1pm). Reserve yer ticket here.
The awards will be a daytime event this year, making them as inclusive and accessible to as many award nominees from across Scotland as possible.

I am a freelance director and writer from Paisley. My work is driven by the idea that watching theatre should be a cool and exciting experience, and bringing that idea to the foreground of every decision.
In 2023-2024, I was the Resident Assistant Director of the Octagon Theatre, Bolton, and I am is also a recipient of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Scholarship, The John Fernald Award & The Cross Trust Award.
I am interested in making work in Scotland for Scottish audiences, and am always drawn to stories about class, language and identity.
Whit wis it got ye involvit wi the Scots leid?
I wrote Common Tongue because I wanted to understand my own voice, and why it changes. The process of making the show became a process of understanding what Scots means to me, and the people around me, and accepting that it can be a slipper, changing language. Through this work, Common Tongue has become a story championing anyone's language – not just Scots, and encouraging them to embrace the unique way we all use our words.
Why dae ye feel it is important tae use Scots in everyday life?
Because it is our language, and to not use it would be to give in to the idea that it is improper, incorrect, or lesser than English. Because we shouldn't have to repeat ourselves.

Opening Common Tongue at Cumbernauld Theatre, with a mid-show standing ovation and one of the most electric audiences I've ever been a part of. Truly a lightning in a bottle moment.
Wha’s yer plans fir the days aheid?
Writing this in the middle of the Fringe, my plans are to rest in the immediate days ahead! I'm working on a project with Scottish Ballet in the Autumn, and will be spending December quietly, with my partner and family recovering from a busy year of work.
