We asked Fiona Heywood of The Living Tradition magazine the following questions.

Tell us about yourself
The Living Tradition is a full colour traditional folk music magazine featuring information, articles, news and reviews from the music scene in the UK, Ireland and further afield. Published bi-monthly from our bases in Scotland and Ireland, The Living Tradition has been essential reading for enthusiasts for over 20 years, our aim being to highlight our rich heritage of traditional music and bring it to a wider audience. We have built a solid readership around the globe and are run by a team of traditional music enthusiasts with past experience ranging from event organisation to live performing.

Why are you involved in Scottish music?
The magazine was founded by Pete and Heather Heywood who have been involved in traditional Scottish music for over 40 years – Heather as one of the foremost traditional singers in Scotland and Pete as a club and festival organiser. Their experiences gave them a passion for traditional music and The Living Tradition became the vehicle for them to help promote it widely. Now, with a new editorial team alongside Pete and Heather, The Living Tradition continues to promote the music we love and are passionate about.

Any particular career highlights?
In February 2014 we published Issue 100 of The Living Tradition – a milestone that we are very proud to have reached.

What are your plans for the future?
Our plan is to continue to provide a quality magazine, covering the best in traditional music – both from the ‘big names’ of the moment and from others who are not in the spotlight but who deserve recognition for their work in the traditional music field – and to provide information that will point people to where they can hear this music locally.
