We asked Angus MacPhail of Skipinnish the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Skipinnish started way back in 1999 but in the last 2 years they have recruited new blood to their line up and with the addition of back-line and vocals to the band they are a much more impressive package. 2014 has been a great year for the band with the release of their chart topping single “Walking on the Waves” and the follow on album “Western Ocean”. This winter will see them release another down load only single – the festive love song “December”, which will be available from 8th December on iTunes.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
It is part of our heritage, and we have been incredibly lucky that we were given the chance to learn to play our instruments by those hugely generous people who gave of their time to pass on their skills. Music is an intrinsic part of our lives and we are lucky to be part of such great tradition.
Any particular career highlights?
2005 Scottish Young Entrepreneurs of the Year
2008 Scottish Dance Band of the Year
2010 Venue of the Year (Skipinnish Ceilidh House, Oban)
2013 Playing for Runrig at their 40th birthday party
2014 Crowds at the festivals we played at singing along to Walking on the Waves!
2014 Being part of the 2014 Common Wealth Games celebrations
2014 Being Nominated to the final 4 of Live Act at Trad Awards!
What are your plans for the future?
Continue writing and performing more of our own material and playing at more of the fantastic festival gigs and try to get time for a bit more touring! We are all having a really great time with band at the moment and I suppose we just want to do more of it!
