MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards: Kirkcaldy Acoustic Music Club, Polish Club

November 9, 2014 By simon

KAMC-logoCongratulations to Kirkcaldy Acoustic Music Club, Polish Club who have been nominated in Club of the Year sponsored by Trac Scotland in the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2014. Vote now!

We asked Sandy Forbes of Kirkcaldy Acoustic Music Club, Polish Club the following questions.

Tell us about yourself
The club has run from the Polish Club for ten years, and prior to that we have been involved in organising Kirkcaldy Folk Club and other music venues and events for over twenty years.
Our aim is to provide a quality and fun programme of music every week.
The performers and the audience share a small, cosy and intimate environment, with an audience that enjoys a wide range of genres of music, and occasionally poetry!

Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Involvement as organisers led to involvement as performers and it has always been a priority for the club to encourage new and touring performers.
Scottish culture in music, song and poetry defines this country in the eyes of the world. We love it and want others to love it too.

Any particular career highlights?
We have had a huge range of performers at our club from across the globe and the range includes many people who will be attending the Trad Awards. For reasons of fairness we’d like to pick out 2 special guests, It will be obvious.why when we say:
Michael Marra. Michael’s insightful and thought provoking lyrics managed at the same time to be hilarious. What a loss. He played our club and events on many occasions, but he enormously enjoyed helping us to get St Andrew and the Rare Wee Helps. He was a rare wee help. What a night!
And Jim Reid, whose wonderful singing and gentle humour made you immediately comfortable, was one of the performers who helped us to get started in the organising of gigs. His tunes for Hallowe’en and The Wild Geese were superb. .
His compositions for the work of the North East poets were inspirational. He was easy for us to work with and trusted that we would treat him properly.
.

What are your plans for the future?
Getting a bigger and wider audience.
Keeping up the standards.
Encouraging new performers and tourers.
Encouraging locals
And of course, having fun!
