We asked Inge Thomson the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
I sing, write songs and tunes, play the accordion and do electronic things. I love to go out with recording devices and try and capture sounds of micro-life, or bang old teapots and see what noise they make.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Scotland has a great, thriving music scene which overlaps all genres. The folk and trad scene is particularly inclusive and supportive of new ideas. Also I work with Karine Polwart who lets me try out new ideas however ill-conceived – my dream job!
Any particular career highlights?
Too many to choose from… Performing ‘Da Fishing Hands’ with such amazing musicians, touring with Will ‘Bonnie Prince Billy’ Oldham also I love overseas work, getting to strike up musical friendships with interesting musicians, Armenia, Iceland and Bahrain spring to mind. Saying that, there’s nothing beats a tour of Scotland’s own wee islands.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to keep making noise. I have an album coming out in January, another later in the year, a new duo with Fraser Fifield and I’m looking forward to future collaborations.
