MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2016: Stirling and District Schools Pipe Band

November 1, 2016 By simon

Concert-1Congratulations to Stirling and District Schools Pipe Band who have been nominated in Pipe band of the Year sponsored by The Glenturret Single Malt Whisky in the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2016. Vote now!

We asked Chris Gibb of Stirling and District Schools Pipe Band the following questions.

Tell us about yourself
Stirling and District Schools Pipe band is an under 18's Pipe Band made up of pupils from within the Stirling Area. The band is lead by Pipe Major Chris Gibb and Drumming Instructor David Ross. The band has had considerable success in competitions and along with competing in Pipe Band Competitions last year, the band performed in high profile concerts with some of Scotland's finest professional musicians including the 3rd performance of Allan MacDonald's commissioned composition called Bruce 700 to a 900 sell out audience in Germany. The band is completely self funded and has a fantastic team of parents working hard behind the scenes to fundraise all year round so that the band can operate and support every young person in its ranks.

Why are you involved in Scottish music?
To educate and provide a platform for young people within the Stirling area to perform music within a Pipe Band setting.

Any particular career highlights?
UK Pipe Band Champions 2015
Performances of the Bruce 700 in Stirling, Germany and at Celtic Connections

What are your plans for the future?
To continue to develop the skills of the young people within the band. To educate new members joining in future years and to continue to help develop core skills in the young people in the organisation including team work, empathy, hard work and commitment.

We will continue to develop the band musically for both competition and concert settings while encouraging the band members to contribute ideas, suggest material and arrange concert pieces for future performances.
