We asked Angus MacPhail of Skipinnish the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Skipinnish were formed 15 years ago by accordionist Angus Macphail and piper Andrew Stevenson when they were studying at the RSAMD in Glasgow. Currently, they have a six piece line up in which the boys are joined by Robert Robertson on lead vocals and guitar, Ross Wilson on piano and backing vocals, Alasdair Murray on drums, and Kyle Orr on pipes.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
It is what we do and what we love! There is no better feeling in the world than playing live to an audience who are dancing, jumping and singing along with our music!
Any particular career highlights?
Finishing TMF this year with the whole audience singing our songs – especially Walking on the Waves – was an amazing feeling! Even the police were up on the sound platform dancing and singing!
Winning Live Act of the Year at the trad awards last year!
Managing 3 world music number 1s in a year, and getting to 46 in the official UK download charts was a great feeling.
What are your plans for the future?
New album next year and lots of festivals in new places. Lots of great gigs at home in Scotland as well! Long term, we hope to keep being able to enjoy what we’re doing and continue to write more of our own material.
