TMSA (Traditional Music & Song Association of Scotland) are sponsors of the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. thanks to them for their support.
We asked Fiona Campbell of TMSA (Traditional Music & Song Association of Scotland) the following questions.
What is your principle company activity?
Established in 1966, the TMSA is a membership organisation committed to promoting, presenting and preserving the traditional music & song of Scotland – through local, national and international activity.
When and where did the company first start trading?
The TMSA was formed in 1966 so we will be 50 in 2016!
What made you want to work in Scottish culture?
The TMSA has always worked with Scottish music and culture at the heart of its activity – particularly promoting its grassroots and different traditions from around our country.
Can you tell us of any particular company highlights?
There are so many at a local and national level from the Keith and Kirriemuir Festivals running for over 30 years, the annual TMSA Young Trad Tours, the Northern Streams Festival in Edinburgh bringing performers from Scotland and Scandinavia together, our Homecoming Scotland 2014 Sessions Programme, new songwriting workshops from Perth Branch, the annual St Andrews Day celebration organised by Aberdeen Branch and the TMSA Event Calendar which helps inform locals and visitors alike about this activity and many other traditional music events and groups around Scotland.
What are your company’s plans for the future?
We expect to be running many of the local TMSA festivals, ceilidhs, competitions, workshops and sessions for a number of years to promote participation in and the development of audiences for Scottish traditional music and song. For the same reasons, nationally we are also looking to continue the TMSA Young Trad Tour and CD of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year finalists, the TMSA Event Calendar hard copy version and national Sessions Programme – though these are all dependent on successfully achieving the required resources for them. And of course, we looking to celebrate our fiftieth birthday in 2016 in style!
