MG ALBA teamed up with the Scots Trad Music Awards in 2008 and made possible our long term aim of being on TV. I’ve really enjoyed the relationship which has vastly increased the profile of traditional music to the wider public. It was even more exciting last year when the event went out live! It brought even better production qualities to the event (thanks to Bees Nees Media). This is MG ALBA’s fifth year of sponsorship and we thank them very much for their support. Watch The MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards live on BBC ALBA on Saturday 7th December at 9pm.
In MG ALBA’s own words…
Since BBC ALBA went on-air on 19 September 2008, MG ALBA’s priority continues to be to run and to grow the channel in partnership with the BBC.
Teamwork and partnership are at the heart of what we do and along with our partners we strive to ensure that Gaelic is heard and used frequently and freely in the media and in Scotland’s social and cultural life. We believe that learners and native speakers have immense talent and through initiatives such as FilmG and LearnGaelic.net we will continue to encourage and create opportunities.
MG ALBA is funded by the Scottish Government and regulated by Ofcom. We are based in Stornoway with a presence on the Isle of Skye, Inverness and Glasgow. Our promise is to inspire and encourage through Media and Gaelic.
MG ALBA launched FilmG in 2008 with the aim of uncovering new talent for development for BBC ALBA. FilmG is MG ALBA’s Gaelic short film competition.
