We asked Tom of Tom Campbell Trio the following questions.

Tell us about yourself
The Tom Campbell Trio is a collective of three Scottish musicians with Tom on Flute, Callum Convoy on Bodhran and Gillie O'Flaherty on Guitar. All three are immersed in the Glasgow traditional music scene. The trio’s sound comes from a blend of tastes, ideas and experiences formed from Scottish and Irish musical traditions. A lot of the band’s music is original, although inspired by trad. However, contemporary ideas are also included in the new compositions and arrangements.

Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Each member of the Tom Campbell Trio grew up surrounded by traditional music and has played from a young age. Tom and Gillie attended the National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton, and Gillie and Callum both studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. The band enjoy the rich music community in Glasgow and feels inspired by the vast amount of great music originating from the city. It's a privilege to be a part of the thriving Scottish music scene.

Any particular career highlights?
In 2019, the Tom Campbell Trio were finalists in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards and later won the Battle of the Folk Bands in 2021.

What are your plans for the future?
After releasing their debut EP, the Tom Campbell Trio is motivated to continue creating music and aims to gather the funds to record an album. The trio looks to continue performing their music at venues and festivals nationally and internationally while developing the style of tunes and arrangements along the way.
