We asked Brian of Feis Ghlaschú the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Feis Ghlaschú was established in 1902 to promote traditional music, singing, language and dancing throughout Glasgow. The Feis has now grown with over 400 competitors participating in both our weekends from all across Scotland.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
The Feis is run by a Committee of volunteers who are dedicated to preserving and enhancing the culture that was established during the first Feis back in 1902 by early immigrants to Glasgow. The Committee now deliver two fantastic weekends of traditional music, singing, language and dancing every year.
Any particular career highlights?
The Feis celebrated its 100th Anniversary back in 2002 and we look forward to our 125th Anniversary in 2027. Every year is a highlight with the increasing numbers of participants in our Feis weekends.
What are your plans for the future?
The next Feis Ghlaschú is schedule to take place in 2024, with the music, singing and language Feis taking place over the last weekend in February (St. Columbkille’s Church Hall, Rutherglen) and our dancing Feis taking place the first weekend in March (Chryston High School, Chryston). We look forward to welcoming participants old and new over both weekends.
