We asked Ruairidh of Roo and Neil the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
Roo Geddes and Neil Sutcliffe combine their shared experience across Classical, Folk and Jazz to create original music for violin and accordion. Based in Glasgow, they explore the ways in which music can evoke senses of place and community.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
We've been raised surrounded by Scottish music for our whole lives, we have found a voice in many of the styles of music which call Scotland their home.
Any particular career highlights?
In 2020 during the first Covid-19 lockdown, Roo and Neil were selected as winner of Fèis Rois’ “In Tune with Nature” competition. The following year, the duo was awarded the prestigious ‘Danny Kyle Award’ from Celtic Connections. This year, Roo and Neil released their debut album 'Homelands' and have been busy touring the country performing this work. The pair also work regularly with Live Music Now Scotland.
What are your plans for the future?
We aim to continue to write and perform new music which challenges us as musicians and goes deeper into the explorations of our writing.
