We asked Angus MacPhail of Angus MacPhail the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
I'm from the Isle of Tiree in the Inner Hebrides. I have been composing tunes and songs since I was a teenager but mainly because I thought they were probably a load of rubbish, they sat on laptops, bits paper and old phones scattered about the place for years and I didn't start doing anything with them till we had a full time singer in the band. The song writing is now probably my favourite aspect of what we are doing. But it's a nerve racking experience releasing a new song because as with earlier days I still have not much of a clue as to whether something is ok or total garbage until it has been released. And by then you can't unreleased it if it turns out to be the latter!
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
It is a combination of many varied factors, but in the main it just feels like a natural part of life, and it is a very enjoyable world to be in.
Any particular career highlights?
Listening to amazing audiences singing songs that I have written or co-wriiten is a very enjoyable experience. Listening to a full Barrowland singing not just the choruses but the verses of our songs back in September evoked a powerful feeling.
What are your plans for the future?
I would like to spend a bit more time on writing and composing. With the constant clutter of life and all the other nonsense we are busy with, it ends up very low down the list of immediate priorities, but it is a process I deeply enjoy so I need to try to make more time for it.
