We asked Lynsey Tait of Lynsey Tait the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
I teach fiddle to around 120 kids weekly. The bulk of my work is based round three organisations: Arran Fiddle Club, RCS Junior Conservatoire and fiddle tuition in Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu. As well as weekly lessons I run workshops, competitions, concerts and residential's for my pupils.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
I listened to and played traditional music from a young age. I loved the tunes and was lucky to have some incredible teachers along the way.
Any particular career highlights?
It's hard to pick a specific highlight because there's such a range every day from the wee one struggling who finally makes it all the way through a tune to seeing older ones acing their competitions. I also love taking the kids to big events like last years RCS Juniors trip to Derry International Music Festival where they got to perform in Neil Martin's 100 Fiddles at 50º North alongside some absolute fiddle heroes.
What are your plans for the future?
It's fantastic to see such large numbers of young people enjoying trad music in Scotland. I just want to inspire as many young people as I can to get involved and experience it.
