We asked Alan Small of Lomond Ceilidh Band the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
The Lomond Ceilidh Band was formed in 1990 by Alan Small. There have been various members over the years but the current line-up have been together for the last two years. Led on accordion and midi bass by Alan Small from Cupar with Gemma Donald from Shetland on fiddle and Kyle Innes from Auchtermuchty on drums, the band have just released a new album entitled 'Back on Track' which showcases their musical journey so far.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Being brought up surrounded by Scottish music, we have all been inspired by different styles and have tried collectively to put our own stamp on the scene. Music is our passion and our profession so we are honoured to have been nominated for the dance band of the year award.
Any particular career highlights?
We have performed all over the country at various events from weddings and private functions to concerts and ceilidhs. We are also lucky enough to have been able to travel all over the world with our music, playing at festivals, weddings and Caledonian society balls. The band has made eight albums over the last twenty-six years, the latest of which is called 'Back on Track' and has been released on both CD and vinyl – we are the first dance band in the Scottish circuit to release a vinyl record in twenty-six years.
What are your plans for the future?
We have a couple of tours lined up just now to promote the new album and there are a few international trips in the pipeline for next year. We aim to keep growing together as a band and broaden our fan base by taking our music to a wider audience. We're booked to play all over the country over the next few months and we have a week long trip to Shetland at the end of January for Up-Helly-Aa which we have been booked to play at every year since 2001.
