We asked Hector Riddell of Hector Riddell the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
I was born and brought up in a family of 8 in Leochel Cushnie near Alford.
There was always music and singing in the home.
I spent a lot of years singing Country and Irish in dance bands.
I started competing in the Bothy Ballad and Traditional Songs about 12 years ago after a big nudge from my wife and younger sister, and am delighted to have been quite successful.
Singing The Bothy Ballads come natural to me as I have been associated with farming all my life.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
I want to help keep our music and song traditions alive.
Any particular career highlights?
Winning the covetted McAllan Porridge Bowl and Spoon at the Elgin Rotary Bothy Ballad Champion of Champions Competition for the first time in 2009 then 2010 , 2013 and 2015
What are your plans for the future?
To keep competing and to help youngsters to keep our Heritage in the music and songs alive.
