The Scots Trad Music Awards is an annual event that takes place every December. Held at different venues around the country, the aim of these Awards is to highlight Scotland’s wonderful traditional music in all its forms and to create a high profile opportunity which will bring the music and music industry into the spotlight of media & public attention.
From its inception in 2003, the ‘Awards’ have steadily grown in popularity and prestige attracting television coverage by the Gaelic channel in 2007 and major sponsorship from MG ALBA in 2008. In 2012 and 2013 the event out live on TV.
The Scots Trad Music Awards, which is organised by ‘Hands Up For Trad’ is seen as ‘The Oscars’ for traditional music. There are two stages, nominating and voting both involving the general public in the process.
First started in 2003 the Awards attract over 100,000 votes from all over the world.
The winners are announced at a glittering Gala Concert and Awards Ceremony, an event that is considered a major highlight in the traditional music calendar.
