A'm a writer an performer fae Orkney, an I bide in Edinburgh. A'm been workin here ten years nou, in poetry, theatre, an video gemms. Me mosst recent beuk is "Deep Wheel Orcadia", an hid's a sci fi novel in Orcadian varse.
Whit wis it got ye involvit wi the Scots leid?
I growed up in Westray in Orkney, so the Orkney form o Scots wis aa aroond me whan I wis peedie. I wis lucky tae hiv encouragement at the school tae write in Scots, so whan I started writan poetry in me twenties it wis gey natural fer me tae uiss Scots. A'm done a bit o wark in Orkney tae help wi the promotion o the language, an hid's been grand tae see a new generation o Orkney writers uissan the language noo. Hid's an excitan time tae be wirkin in hid.
Ony particlar career heighlichts
This August we mad a performance o "Deep Wheel Orcadia" at the Edinburgh Beuk Festival wi a haill string quartet accompanyan me poetry. Hid wis wan o the grandest days o me life. Ye cin still waatch hid at edbookfest.co.uk.

A'm been laernan Gaelic this year, an A'm stairtan a eveneen cless in hid in October – math fhèin! Gaelic is laernan me a dose aboot me awn language, seean the connections atween the twa, an hid's geus tae be pairt of the braider wark fer minority languages.
