We asked Ewen Henderson of Ewen Henderson the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
I am multi-instrumentalist traditional musician from Lochaber, performing mostly on fiddle, pipes and as a singer. I toured for four years with Battlefield Band but I’m now more commonly to be found performing with Mànran, the band I co-founded in 2010.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
I’ve been playing Scottish music from a very early age as I grew up in a family and an area literally teeming with traditional music. I’m involved in Scottish music now because I find it a fantastic, vibrant and fulfilling art-form.
Any particular career highlights?
Career highlights pertinent to the nomination would be singing on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” Radio Show in the USA and singing with “The Batties” as part of a Chieftains Concert finale in an ice-hockey stadium in Cape Breton, Canada.
An unrelated career highlight was scoring a goal at half-time during the 2009 Scottish Cup Final, dressed as a pineapple.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue performing with Mànran, to compose more music and to try and find time for some of those interesting side-projects.
