Tell us about yourself
A’m a young political activist an SNP member thit’s pushin fir the Scottish Government tae tak mair serious political action on Scots. Fae wi-in the pairty A’ve managed tae get a resolution on the settin up o a Scots Language Board ontae the agenda at the SNP Conference in October, an fae ootwi the pairty A’ve set up Oor Vyce, a campaignin platform fir the Scots Language community tae mak its vyce heard in a political sense an big brigs wi Holyrood.
Why are you involved in Scots language?
A grew up wi a lot o Scots vocabulary, but purged a lot o it oot o massel at scuil acause A thocht it wisnae ‘proper’. A’ve noo reconneckit wi ma language, but A dinnae want ony bairn tae feel the wey A did aboot ma speech back then, sae A’m yaisin ma political experience tae mak shair Scots is finally heezed up ontae an equal fuittin wi English.
Any particular career highlights?
Giein a speech on the need fir a Scots Language Board tae the youth wing o the SNP an haein a young Scots speaker come up tae me efter an thank me fir helpin him the finally unnerstaun thit the wey he spake wis normal an bonnie, an no jist slang.
What are your plans for the future?
Dae aw A cin tae see the Scots Language Board resolution be adoptit bi the Scottish Government, an then yaise Oor Vyce tae bring ither pairties intae the conversation an mak shair the Government taks proper action an sticks tae its promises!
