At the moment we are just finalising the 2014 Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame. One of the best jobs is phoning the inductees and telling them we would like to induct them to the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame and is it ok! I get to chat to so many people hearing about their musical lives, fun stories and other musicians they have met. Usually they have different names from their stage names or shortened versions of how we know them now. I love the fact these inductees hung out with all these other inductees!
Often I call a family member of a inductee who has passed away and they are so excited to hear the news. One person I chatted to this week was ‘humbled’ at the thought of their father entering the Hall. They said it showed that their father had made it and was going to be remembered.
Of course we all have heroes that we don’t get to chat to. Last year I got to chat to Andy M Stewart of Silly Wizard. It’s ridiculous but I had never met him. I was able to tell him about attending the Silly Wizard concert in Edinburgh Playhouse in 1983. It was like being a young teenager again!
Through the Hall of Fame I’ve met lots of amazing individuals over the years and when you see the list of 2014 inductees you’ll see how lucky I’ve been this year!
