Dave Francis wrote, (Tracs Director) I have been at every one of the Trad Awards. It’s one of the highlights of the traditional music year when every part of that community comes together – piping, dance bands, traditional song, contemporary songwriting and the innovative musicians who are constantly renewing this rich tradition. There have been so many highlights over the years, but for me one that sticks in the mind is Shona Donaldson’s unaccompanied performance of Burns’s ‘Bonnie Mary of Argyll’ at Perth Concert Hall. TRACS is pleased to sponsor this year’s Hamish Henderson Award that goes to individuals who have made a major contribution to traditional music over a lifetime. This year’s winner, Caroline MacLennan, has made not only a significant contribution to traditional music but to the economy and profile of Lewis.”
Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland (TRACS) brings together the key art form Forums for music, dance and storytelling, to showcase Scotland’s rich cultural heritage, and to improve the knowledge, practice, development and advocacy of traditional arts in the contemporary world, making them more accessible to all.
TRACS leads, in consultation with the Forums, on shared advocacy, policy development, strategic relationships, programme initiatives and promotion, involving different aspects of Scotland’s traditional arts, culture and languages.
