Summerhall Surgeries is open for applications from artists keen to present their unfinished work to peers and industry during the Edinburgh Fringe 2024.
Summerhall Surgeries is an artist development initiative led by Summerhall Arts. Running throughout the Fringe, the opportunity gives artists the chance to showcase unfinished works-in-progress to an audience of peers and industry figures. Summerhall Surgeries will provide a safe, collaborative and creative playground for artists to try out new ideas to local and international audiences, gaining industry and peer-to-peer feedback.
Summerhall Surgeries is a celebration of the spontaneity and playfulness of the Fringe atmosphere – where new collaborations are formed in ticket queues, between performances and in post-show conversations in the bar. At these scratch events, artists, industry figures, groundbreaking performance and innovative unfinished ideas will be brought together to create a vibrant space for networks and partnerships to form.
Summerhall Surgeries will take place on:
– Monday 5th August: 16:45 – 17:45
– Saturday 24th August: 10:00 – 11:00
There are 8 slots available for individual artists or collectives.
Successful applicants will:
– Be paid a fee of £100 for their performance (£100 per artist up to a total of £300 per scratch performance)
– Be offered an optional one-to-one call with the event producer to discuss their performance and any questions
– Receive peer-to-peer and industry feedback post-event
Summerhall Surgeries scratch performances should last a maximum of 10 minutes. Rehearsal space is not included. There will be tech available but we recommend that you keep requirements to a minimum.

– UK-based and international artists are welcome to apply
– Work presented at Summerhall Surgeries must be unfinished
– Work presented at Summerhall Surgeries must not be part of this year’s Edinburgh Fringe
