NYCOS is seeking Music Staff for Regional Choirs across Scotland, with particular opportunities available in Stirling, Midlothian, Falkirk and Edinburgh. You’ll support the Regional Choir Director in delivering high-quality musicianship education using the Kodály approach, contributing to the overall success of weekly rehearsals for young singers aged 7-18. This role offers the opportunity to share your passion for music education while helping children develop essential musical skills through fun, games-based learning. You’ll teach progressive musicianship classes leading to Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award Certifications, with our Gold 2 Award accredited by ABRSM as equivalent to Grade 5 Music Theory.
Key responsibilities:
Teach musicianship using the Kodály approach
Provide occasional section leading during singing rehearsals
Ensure safety and wellbeing of children within the classroom
Assist at concerts in June and December
Participate in staff meetings and training sessions
What we’re looking for:
Training in the Kodály approach to musicianship
Experience working with young people
Excellent communication skills with children and adults
Enthusiasm for NYCOS’ mission to promote choral singing in Scotland
Reliability, flexibility and ability to work as part of a team
START DATE
September 2025
HOURS
Up to 3 hours per week for 26 rehearsals during term time.
Winter and Summer concerts and other performances as required.
SALARY
£37 per hour
Location: Edinburgh City, Falkirk, Midlothian, Stirling
