YMI Introduction to Scottish Music
Position: Traditional Music & Gaelic Song Tutor (1 year)
Dates: Thursdays, 9am-3pm (from 21/10/21)
Rate: £180 day rate (up to 24 days)
Fèis Phàislig was established in November 2014 to provide opportunities in traditional music and Gaelic culture for young people across Renfrewshire. Alongside an annual Fèis Week event, the organisation now delivers a year-round programme including Weekly Lessons, a Gaelic Choir and our Ceilidh Trail project.
We are currently seeking a part-time hourly paid tutor for our YMI Introduction to Scottish Music project. The successful applicant will be able to give young people a fun and inspiring experience of traditional music and Gaelic song, delivering whole-class sessions across 8-week blocks. It would desirable for the successful applicant to have a driving license and access to a car to reach each all of our partner schools. Applicants must be available to deliver tuition across all Thursdays as follows:

- Nov 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th
- Dec 2nd, 9th
- Jan 13th, 20th, 27th
- Feb 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th
- Mar 3rd
- Apr 21st, 28th
- May 12th, 19th, 26th

Job Description: Specific tasks
Our YMI (Youth Music Initiative) Introduction to Scottish Music project is delivered in partnership with Renfrewshire Council and aims to give pupils an inspiring and engaging experience of traditional music and Gaelic. Pupils have the chance to work with a professional musician across 8 weeks and develop their understanding of Scottish music and culture. The successful applicant will be required to carry out the following tasks:
- Plan and deliver weekly traditional music workshops during school term-time.
- Work with our partner schools to best meet the needs of their pupils e.g. link with class topics, making use of in-school instruments.
- Where possible, deliver an end-of-term performance opportunity for pupils e.g. performance for another class / at school concert.
- Follow and implement Fèis Phàislig’s Child Protection Policy including upholding a duty of care to class pupils.
- Maintain simple records in order to track class progress.
- Attend to all reasonable matters that are required to ensure the success of the project.
