Music Plus is a national youth music mentoring initiative. Now in its eighth year, the project employs over 70 part-time music industry professionals, offering young people one-to-one guidance, encouragement, skills and knowledge across a range of creative and technical roles. The project caters for all genres, from singer songwriters to DJ / producers and is funded by Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative (YMI).
Music Plus has acted as a launchpad for hundreds of young people interested in a career in music. Some alumni include; JR Green, Tamzene, Emme Woods, Scope, Iona Fyfe, Aylee and music bloggers Vinyl Noise.
Music Plus is now accepting applications from 14-19 year olds in Scotland.
Drawing upon our network of industry professionals, we match mentors skill sets with young peoples interests, in any genre of music or any career associated with the music industry. In addition, the project produces training days, workshops, seminars and secures performance slots for young artists and behind-the-scenes roles for non-musicians, at festivals like Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival and Electric Fields.
As well as artist development, Music Plus develops confidence in young people through a diverse range of music making activities. The project collaborates with third party organisations that work with hard to reach or marginalised young people and strives to deliver provision for those that would benefit the most and those who would not normally have the opportunity to participate.
